SS Julian a finalist for Comic-con’s Promising Newcomer Award

The Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award is granted every year at the San Diego Comic-con Eisner Awards. It is presented to a comic artist who, early in their career, shows a superior knowledge and ability in the art of creating comics.

SS Julian was nominated for their self-published work Octopolis: Holdfast, a non-dystopian post-apocalypse sci-fi comic about a future where humans have driven themselves to extinction and intelligent octopuses have inherited the Earth.

Though fictional, Octopolis draws on real scientific discoveries about octopus behavior and intelligence. Julian wrote, illustrated and produced the graphic novel entirely independently.
